Call for Submissions: Celebrate Our Local Filmmakers!

Are you a filmmaker in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District with a story to share? We’re inviting local filmmakers to submit excerpts (5-min max) from past or present projects, along with links to the final project, for an upcoming Local Filmmaker Showcase — a special F.I.N.E evening celebrating the creative voices that have shaped (and continue to shape!) our community’s film scene.

This is your chance to revisit your earlier work, share your artistic journey, and connect with fellow storytellers who love local cinema. Whether it’s a short, a feature, a documentary, or an experimental piece, we want to highlight the past and present of local filmmaking talent.

Requirements:

  • Excerpt files must be a maximum of 5 minutes with a link to the full program if it is longer than 5 minutes.
  • Submissions must be MP4 or .MOV format.
  • You can submit by filling out the application form and submitting the file via Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer, ToffeeShare
  • Filmmakers must be residents of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
  • There will be a filmmaker Q&A at the end so filmmakers must be present at the event.
  • Up to 10 excerpts will be shown. If there are more than 10 submitted the ones selected will be chosen by lottery.

The Film Industry Networking Event (F.I.N.E) is a monthly gathering designed to bring together filmmakers, industry professionals, and creatives from Kamloops and the surrounding area. Hosted every month at the Paramount Theatre, F.I.N.E offers an evening of insights, inspiration, and networking opportunities. Whether you’re an established professional, an aspiring filmmaker, or someone curious about the industry, F.I.N.E is the perfect place to connect, learn, and grow within the local film community.

Rules & Terms

By signing this entry form and entering your film into the F.I.N.E. Showcase Submission Form, you explicitly agree to the following:

  1. That you provide a film with a duration maximum of 5 minutes or a 5 minute excerpt of your film, including any credits. If it is longer than 5 minutes, you also agree to share a link that can be accessed publicly with the full film.
  2. That you understand that up to 10 excerpts will be shown, and if more than 10 submissions are received, the ones selected will be chosen by lottery. Therefore, your film may not be chosen to be played as part of the F.I.N.E. Showcase.
  3. That you will provide your film as an MP4. or MOV. file and send it to the KFS via Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer, ToffeeShare or other downloadable means. Films submitted on flash drives will NOT be accepted. Any submission other than MP4 or MOV formats is automatically disqualified.
  4. That you have full copyright for all materials used in the film, including music.
  5. That you guarantee that the submission is original work and that there are no ownership or copyright disputes regarding the entry. That you are authorized to submit this film and affirm that the submission will not violate any law or right of any person or entity.
  6. That the film is for a general audience.
  7. That at least one of the main filmmakers (writer, director, or producer) is from the TNRD Region. They either reside here currently or have lived here for more than ¾ of their lives.
  8. That you indemnify and hold Thompson-Nicola Film Commission, its directors, producers, staff, volunteers, and affiliated entities harmless and will defend them against any damage to or loss of the film, any claims, demands, losses, damages, judgments, liabilities and expenses, including attorney’s fees, arising out of or in connection with any and all claims of third parties based on the film submitted to F.I.N.E. Showcase
  9. That you understand that failure to comply with the F.I.N.E. Showcase guidelines will disqualify your entry.
  10. That you agree to attend the event, as there will be a filmmaker Q&A session following the screening.
