KFS Board Corner – December 2025

As the year draws to a close, our renewed board is taking a short break, readying itself for a busy 2026. We endorsed two new directors at November’s AGM, and each brings their unique experience and perspective to our group. All of us will share those perspectives at a day-long strategic retreat in mid-January. Our last retreat was held in 2016 and so much has changed since then. At that time our theatre was still under Landmark Cinema’s ownership and the KFS only weekly tenants, and the Covid pandemic that would up-end so much of our lives and especially the cinema industry, was still a spectre in the far distance. A critical part of keeping a society’s board relevant and future-focused is regularly re-examining its mandate, mission and vision going forward – a challenge in these tight economic times, especially for many arts organizations.

Even in these tight times, our board’s ’30 for 30’ fundraising campaign, started in September 2025, managed to raise $15,000 towards our $30,000 goal and many heartfelt thanks go to the generous donors who recognize the value of keeping independent theatre alive in Kamloops. We’ll celebrate the donors at a small event in mid-January and share our renewed vision for the Paramount’s future.

And speaking of plans, I shared ours for the Paramount’s MovieMart project with an interviewer from CBC Arts this month. With the help of a few dedicated volunteers, we’re creating an online library from the massive collection that came to the KFS from MovieMart store in 2021. Watch our website for further developments. In the meantime, enjoy the article – who knew the Paramount would be part of a national trend!
