The Queer Film Series
March 31, 2026
The Kamloops Film Society is thrilled to announce the launch of a new film committee: The Queer Film Series! The committee consists of allies and members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community; from youth, to KFS staff, to community leaders of Kamloops. With this new series you can expect a queer themed movie on the last Friday almost every month–year round.
The committee is dedicated to showing you stories and experiences beyond your own to help connect with different perspectives, celebrate identity, learn about queer history, and showcase some beautiful movies along the way.
The first series will open Friday March 27 @ 7:30 PM with Paris is Burning (1990): a landmark documentary filmed in the 1980s Harlem drag ball scene, focusing on Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ communities exploring “houses,” voguing, and the fierce competition for trophies, while highlighting the participants’ struggles against poverty, racism, AIDS, and violence.
The series will continue with a screening of the Wachowskis’ Bound (1996) on April 24 @ 7:30 PM
The third film, to be announced, is Friday, May 29.
