Event Coordinator – Canada Summer Jobs 2026
The Kamloops Film Society is looking to hire a full-time Event Coordinator for a 16-week contract starting mid-May , 2026. This is a 31 hour per week position, working weekdays and some evenings and weekends.
The Event Coordinator will be assisting the Festival Producer with the planning, marketing, coordination and delivery of the 5th annual Indigenous Film Festival planned for September 2026 at the Paramount Theatre. As well, the Event Coordinator will develop hand-on customer service experience by working nightly shifts at the Paramount Theatre leading up to the festival.
Responsibilities will include:
- Support/ assist the Festival Producer in curating the festival, more specifically in:
- Content programming and research
- Community outreach planning and research
- Special events and collaborations research and ideation
- Support fundraising and sponsorship initiatives for the festival
- Serve as a Secretary for committee meetings and maintaining other internal documentation
- Work with the Festival Producer to deliver a positive patron experience at all touchpoints of the festival
- Manage all data and documentation during the festival to create post festival dashboards and debriefs
Tasks will include:
- Coordinating advertising, promotion, and marketing for the festival.
- Assisting with supervising the Festival Committee, made up of volunteers of the KFS. The Event Coordinator will help make decisions, troubleshoot, communicate, and negotiate through issues with the team.
- Overseeing all the patron facing engagements during the festival to ensure a positive patron experience for all attendees; including Front of House ticketing, point of sale utilization, customer issue management, and troubleshooting.
- Developing event plans and run-of-shows to ensure festival events run smoothly.
- Collecting assets for the festival program.
- Updating the WordPress website with pertinent festival related information.
- Using Canva, assisting in the design and layout of festival promotional materials, including Festival program.
- Maintaining all necessary records, data and dashboards for post-festival debriefs and archives.
- Liaising with event venues and partners as needed.
- Liaising with special guests as needed, ensuring proper protocols are followed.
- Communicating with the KFS team in regards to logistical and process improvements for a smoother operation of the festival.
Not all tasks/ responsibilities will be expected from the Event Coordinator right at the start. The goal is to build on the skills that the successful candidate already has and to develop the skills they have not yet had the opportunity to build. The Festival Producer will work in tandem with the incumbent to introduce them to the various tasks and responsibilities, by teaching them what is expected, then demonstrating the proper execution, then allowing the Event Coordinator to try with supervision, to finally allowing them to continue without direct supervision, but with ongoing check ins and assessments.
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and is contingent upon grant approval.
Qualifications:
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident or granted refugee status.
- Between the ages of 15 and 30 (inclusive) at the start of employment.
- At least some post-secondary education is required.
- Significant experience may be presented in lieu of formalized post-secondary education
- Must be available to work weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
- Serving It Right & Foodsafe Certification (can be obtained once hired)
Hours & Compensation
- Hours: 31 hrs/week
- Rate: $19/hr

Publicity Coordinator – Canada Summer Jobs 2026
The Kamloops Film Society (KFS) is looking to hire a full-time Publicity Coordinator for a 12-week contract starting June 1, 2026. This is a 31 hour per week position, working weekdays with some evenings and weekends.
The Publicity Coordinator will report to the Festival & Events Producer to research, plan and coordinate public-facing communications and community engagement activities that support volunteer recruitment, event and festival promotions, and member and patron engagement for the Kamloops Film Society.
Responsibilities will include:
- Research, plan and attend community engagement activities and events to promote KFS volunteer, event and membership opportunities (e.g., Farmer’s Markets, campus events, etc.)
- Update KFS Google Business Profile with weekly showtimes and special events.
- Submit event listings for key events and festivals;
- Draft press releases and pitch media; coordinate interviews;
- Act as a social media correspondent at festivals and special screenings and events (sharing content to Instagram stories, etc.);
- Develop KFS media lists and track and report all media coverage;
- Write/create blog and/or vlog posts that share the stories of KFS volunteers and members, including conducting interviews;
- Prepare the KFS bi-weekly volunteer newsletter;
- Develop a template for, and write monthly member newsletters including member profiles and testimonials;
- Act as a KFS spokesperson at events;
- Develop creative ways to engage patrons at KFS at screenings, festivals and events with the goal of capturing patron experiences and stories for the KFS communication channels;
- Support the Executive Director with gathering data, photos and testimonials and drafting content that communicates volunteer, member and donor impact;
- Maintain up-to-date records and reporting to ensure organizational knowledge retention.
Key Requirements
- 2+ years’ experience in communications and/ or marketing;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
- Demonstrated capability in project management and media and/or client relations;
- Proficiency in G-Suite and MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Proficiency in Canva, MailChimp and WordPress or similar programs;
- Ability to work independently and to respond efficiently to changing work flow needs;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; pitching ideas and working with the team to identify unique aspects of KFS events an asset;
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues in a team environment, and to be able to demonstrate and build enthusiasm with staff, volunteers, partners, and supporters;
- Ability to work to tight timelines and in a time-pressured schedule;
- Adaptable to a flexible work schedule including some evenings and weekends for events.

THEATRE TECHNICIAN
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Paramount Theatre Technician works closely with the KFS Programming Director and Rentals Manager to coordinate and deliver all technical aspects of Paramount Theatre special events and rentals, including comedy shows, live performances, lectures, screenings, and community events.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Collaborating with directors, artists, presenters, and production teams to realize artistic and technical vision within established schedules and budgets
- Preparing, setting up, operating, and striking lighting, sound, and projection systems for live events
- Coordinating and supporting load-ins, set-ups, technical rehearsals, performances, load-outs, and tear-downs
- Assisting artists and visiting productions with technical needs, logistics, and venue orientation
- Providing on-site troubleshooting and problem-solving during rehearsals and live events
Qualifications & Skills
- Demonstrated experience providing technical support for professional events and/or live performances
- Working knowledge of lighting, sound, and basic projection systems;
- Experience with QLab and other A/V or show control systems an asset.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff, artists, and volunteers
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
- Ability to assist with physically demanding tasks associated with live events (load-ins, set-ups, etc.)
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
RATE: $19/hr, part-time position; hours vary depending on rentals and special events. Additional hours may be available for candidates able to work Front of House (concession) shifts.
