KFS Board Corner
May 25, 2026
This spring season was made a bit darker when we learned of the passing of one of the Kamloops Film Society’s strongest supporters. Kevin Martin had been a board member since 2002 and sadly passed away in late April. Kevin was involved in the Kamloops cinema community his whole career, working at the downtown Odeon for 23 years from 1978 until it closed in 2001, after which he became involved as a volunteer at the KFS. You can read his biography on our KFS Board page and watch a video of Kevin talking about his favorite movies. Because he was a devoted Beatles fan, we’re honouring Kevin’s memory with a screening of the movie Yesterday in the next few weeks. We will miss his positive attitude, humour and always remember his commitment to film and the KFS.
Springtime also means it’s time for our annual board mental housecleaning exercise as we conduct our self-evaluation questionnaire. We examine our internal processes, interactions and ask whether we are properly communicating our goals, achievements and challenges to our stakeholders. The results are always valuable and it’s taken seriously as a growth exercise. Do you have feedback you’d like to give the board of directors? We always welcome hearing from you. Email us at [email protected]
On May 31, we’ll hold a special event screening of The Sound of Music. The KFS will celebrate the film’s 4K restoration (with closed captioning) with entertainment in the lobby, participation bags for purchase, and special themed food treats, like fresh pretzels and apple strudels. We would love to see as many guests in costume as possible! The board is taking the lead on the event, and directors will be on hand to welcome you and talk about our next fundraising campaign to contribute to lobby improvements and accessibility upgrades for the theatre. We hope to see you there, especially in costume!
