Breaking in and staying in the film industry is difficult when meeting the financial demands of living expenses. In this masterclass you will learn how a single mother navigated her way through all the pitfalls. You will learn how to focus your funding proposals and develop presentation materials for corporate educational video. You will also learn about which short courses to take to break into the film industry without taking a full film school program. Doreen will also show you how to break down a production budget for your film submission proposals.

Doreen is a trailblazing Indigenous filmmaker, educator, and industry advocate with over 20 years in film and 38 years in education. She is the daughter of Grand Chief George Manuel and Spiritual Leader Marceline Manuel and has dedicated her career to amplifying Indigenous perspectives in film and media Manuel is the first Indigenous woman to serve on the Board of Directors of Knowledge Network and as a Director of a major film training center in Canada.
Doreen is a prominent figure at Capilano University, where she has been instrumental in developing Indigenous Digital Film programs and the Indigenous Digital Accelerator (IDA). Through the IDA, Doreen created the Filmmakers in Leadership and Management Business Affairs, NBC CapU Screenwriting, Indigenous Assistant Director training, Indigenous Production Management and the Leadership in Indigenous Business Incubator programs. These are online programs available to all Indigenous in Canada.
